Day 2 In Yogyakarta

Post breakfast, proceed for a morning guided sightseeing tour of Yogyakarta, visiting the Sultan’s Palace, located in the heart of the Old City. This huge palace of the sultans of Yogyakarta was effectively the centre of a small walled city within the city. Over 25,000 people live within the greater Kraton compound, which contains its own market, shops, batik, school, mosques and silver cottage industries.

(Kraton is open from 8:00 hrs to 14:00 hrs, except Friday when it closes at 13:00 hrs. It is also closed on national and Kraton holidays)

Drive to the Prambanan Temple, the temple of the “slender virgin”, also known as the Complex of Lorojongrang, which consist of 3 major temples/shrines in the main area, dedicated to the respected Tri-Murti trinity of the Hindus: Candi Shiva Mahadeva, Candi Brahma & Candi Vishnu.

Enough time is given to stroll and observe the beautiful carvings, and the neighbourhood shrines such as Candi Plaosan and the Candi Sewu.

Day 3 Yogyakarta - Borobudur - Yogyakarta (70km/6hrs, Including Sightseeing)

Post breakfast, depart for a guided sightseeing tour of Borobudur Temple, the most spectacular and the world’s largest Buddhist monument complex. It was built around 800 AD. Looming out of a patchwork of bottle-green paddies and swaying palm tops, this colossal Buddhist relic is one of the continent’s marvels. After the decline of Buddhism and the shift of power to East Java, the monument was abandoned soon after its completion. For centuries, the complex lay forgotten, buried under layers of volcanic ash.

Climb up to the top and enjoy a wonderful view of the Menoreh Mountains.

Enough time is given to stroll around the complex to discover its beauty.

Afterwards, go on to visit the nearby temples such as Candi Pawon and Mendut.

Post Lunch, return to hotel and rest of the day at leisure to relax.

Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 5 Kediri - Mt. Bromo (208km/6hrs)

Post breakfast, check-out and depart for Mt. Bromo, with a stop at Pasuruan to view its colourful fishing village and salt refinery.

On arrival in Tosari village, check-in at selected hotel.

Tosari, in the region of Mt. Bromo, is best known for its awesome scenery; at its heart is a vast, ancient volcanic crater with sheer walls over 300 metres high. Within this crater, a host of picturesque mountains – including the dramatic, still-smoking Gunung Bromo (2329 metres) – rise up from the Sea of Sand, the sandy plain at the crater’s base. Hundreds of thousands of visitors come here each year to climb Bromo for the sunrise: a stunning sight, and less strenuous than many other Indonesian peaks.

Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 6 Mt. Bromo - Mt. Ijen (226km/10hrs)

Very early morning, at 4:00 hrs, depart for Penanjakan to witness the beautiful sunrise (if weather permits). The trip continues across the sand-sea to reach the foot of Mt. Bromo, the starting point to climb up the stairs to the crater.

The spectacular view of the range of volcanoes (Bromo, Batok and Semeru) is unveiled along with the rising morning sun.

Note

  • There is a possibility for a horse-back (pony ride), at supplementary cost.
  • This morning trekking is not suitable for elderly clients, or clients with walking difficulties.
  • Please note that the ideal time to visit Bromo is during the dry season, from April to November. It is cold at any time of year in these mountains; night temperatures can get down to around 2-5 Celsius.
  • The Bromo Tengger National Park is a popular getaway destination for local tourists, so the platform on the peak of Mt. Penanjakan can be very busy during weekends and public holidays.

Afterwards, return to hotel for refreshments and check-out before departing for Banyuwangi.

Lunch en-route in a local restaurant.

Check-in at the Ijen Resort, perched at the edge of the rainforest, in the foothills of the volcanoes.

Dinner and overnight at the Ijen Resort.

Day 7 Mt. Ijen Excursion - Bali (293km/12hrs)

After an early wake-up call and breakfast, depart in our vehicle through the rural villages, coffee and clove plantations and then into one of Java’s last rainforests. Humidity, wildlife, giant ferns and big trees cover the slope of the mountain.

Arrive at the Park Ranger's Post and begin the 90 minute hike to Ijen Crater, along a shady track with spectacular views. The stunning view is unveiled at a 2883 metres altitude.

The lake's eerie colour and smoke, wafting from bright yellow sulphur deposits, creates a landscape that is both barren and vibrant. Watch miners descend into the crater then re-emerge, carrying up to 80 kilos of ore in bamboo baskets along the treacherous path.

Afterwards, walk down the mountain and return to the hotel.

After a short rest, check-out and continue the trip to Bali via Ketapang Harbour.

Lunch en-route in a local restaurant.

Note

  • Please be prepared for a long trip from Ijen to Ubud, Bali. It takes approximately 5 hrs, but it is subject to road traffic and some waiting time for crossing the strait via ferry.

Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 8 Ubud Departure
